Manager, Health Information Management
This position exists to assure that human and material resources within Health Information Services are used efficiently and effectively to achieve the goals of providing complete, retrievable patient care information to physicians, health care professionals, patients and review agencies.
This position reports to the Director, Health Information Services. It is responsible for controlling the processing of medical records, their filing, completion, storage and retrieval. It directly supervises Transcription, ROI, Physician Incomplete Records, Analysis, ER Processing, Number Control/Surgery Chart Ordering, Indigent Death Certificate process. Interfaces with Patient Access (Registration), Emergency, Information Technology, Purchasing, Human Resources, nursing units and the medical staff, as well as Quality Outcomes, Case Management,, Business Services, Decision Support, Risk Management and Ancillary services as necessary, regarding medical record needs and services. May assume responsibility for the entire department in absence of the Director. This position routinely interfaces with adults.
Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED. BA/BS preferred or equivalent education/experience. Knowledge of JCAHO standards, Federal and State regulations, HIPAA privacy requirements, legal requirements and medical staff regulations in regard to medical record documentation. Good communication and human resource management skills. Willingness to accept and adapt to technological change. Minimum or 3 years supervisory experience in Health Information Services or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification by American Health Information Association (AHIMA) as Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health information Administrator (RHIA) required. Maintenance of continuing education requirements as established by AHIMA.
