Precision Machine Shop Planner
The purchasing agent / part planner is responsible to design router after customer purchase orders are accepted in accordance with drawing and other specifications. He or she is also responsible to order raw materials for production in a timely manner.
THIS POSITION INVOLVES BOTH MANUFACTURING DESIGN AND PURCHASING.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Translate prints and BOM into router;
• Design router including outside process, inspection points and additional notes as necessary;
• Work with Machine Shop Foreman in router design for complex parts;
• Issue purchase orders for raw material/parts, tooling, subcontracting in accordance with production schedule (both stock and per order);
• Obtain competitive quotes for raw materials, negotiate with vendors (phone/email);
• Weigh costs and benefits of materials and processes during planning and purchasing ;
• Expedite orders as necessary;
• Work with receiving inspection to ensure that incoming material is properly inspected, tagged and stored;
• Maintain online raw material inventory;
• Verify receipt of material daily against MRP open order reports;
• Prioritize jobs daily, review POs and follow up on hot jobs;
• Release jobs to manufacturing when ready to process and raw material accepted;
• Work with Quality to qualify and evaluate vendors (new and existing);
• Issue DMRs for non conforming raw material;
• Track late and discrepant deliveries;
• Track vendor performance overall;
• Work with Quality to issue SCARs when appropriate.
Requirements:
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to read and interpret complex blue prints;
- Appropriate knowledge of customer requirements and specifications;
- Ability to make a part, design router;
- Ability to negotiate with vendors;
- Excellent communication skills via email and phone;
- Computer literate (Word, excel, internal MRP);
BACKGROUND AS A MACHINIST REQUIRED
