Sustaining/Design Engineer

Job Description:

The Sustaining/ Design Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager and is responsible for manufacturing and design support. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide engineering support to increase productivity and profitability of the factory by designing highly engineered products and documentation to build products that meet our safety, quality, delivery and cost targets.

This position requires the working knowledge of the different manufacturing processes and techniques such as assembly, paint/plate/powder coat, precision sheet metal design and fabrication, CNC machining, laser cut, spinning, polishing, plastic molding, forming, metal casting, extrusions, acrylic and/or glass

Principal Responsibilities:

1. Manage day-to- day activities of sustaining / manufacturing engineering team to accomplish the goals and objective established by the Engineering Manager and/or General Manager

2. Develop required documentation to support assembly and shipments of products to include standard assembly and installation instructions as required by production.

3. Develop individual component / assembly drawings and Bill of Materials (BOM) and routing for new and existing products.

4. Create of work instructions for products' assembly

5. Develop product component routings and conduct time analysis as needed to develop time standards and product costing data for new and existing products.

6. Conduct design and manufacturability review and DFMEA/PFMEA analysis.

7. Serves as a vital team member for the implementation of continuous improvement efforts and related to manufacturing cost reduction initiatives.

8. Prepare engineering design package (BOM + Drawings+ Instruction sheet) for modified or custom products.

9. Provide engineering support as required in design changes to improve productivity and DTC products to improve process flow.

10. Serves as the manufacturing team representative in the New Product Development Team.

11. Manage work flow of ECR/ECO/ECN as they relate to component and assembly drawings. Develop a documentation control process for drawings that maintains current revision for internal use and vendor reference.

Job Requirements:

- 4 year college degree preferably in mechanical engineering or industrial design
- Excellent Solidworks skills is a MUST
- Excellent time management skills is a MUST
- Microsoft office suit proficiency
- 3-5 years of experience working in a manufacturing facility heavily involved with plastic molding and forming, metal casting, precision sheet metal design and fabrication, extrusions, acrylic, glass , CNC machining. Understanding of materials, fabrication techniques and finishes as well as process limitations
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast paced environment

- Excellent verbal and writing skills
- Experience in lighting industry is desired
- UL 1598 working knowledge a plus
